Results of the EDUKA2 Project

The project aimed to increase the capacity of public authorities and stakeholders in the field of education. To this aim, cross-border cooperation and governance were enhanced by creating a functional cross-border cooperation network encompassing schools, universities, research centres and institutions representing national and linguistic minorities. On the basis of a shared strategy document, the network focused on common challenges and solutions in the field of education with regards to cultural and linguistic aspects, as well as environmental and naturalistic issues. The educational scope included the teaching of minority, regional and neighbouring languages and awareness of the risks associated with land use and climate change.

41 learning units were developed during the project:

  • units covering different subject matters for “cross-border classes";
  • units covering literature in the cross-border area
  • units on the teaching of minority languages: Slovene in Italian schools using Slovene as language of instruction, Italian in Slovene schools using Italian as language of instruction and Friulian in Italian schools planning its introduction;
  • units on the teaching of Slovene and Italian as a neighbouring language in schools.

For the transfer of knowledge and teaching models, 5 training courses (also in e-learning version) were offered to teachers and professors in the Programme area.

In addition, tools were created to support students and graduates in the procedures for the recognition of university and professional qualifications acquired in the neighbouring country, including a manual and a guide for students and joint training courses for university staff responsible for student offices, career guidance and mentoring.
In addition, a web platform for teaching materials and e-learning was made available, as well as a Facebook page where activities were posted.

Outputs of the EDUKA2 Project

The project included two joint strategic documents in line with the INTERREG V-A Programme Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 mission to provide joint solutions that increase integration, coherence, harmonization of governance in the Programme area (shared policies, legislative or regulatory framework, joint strategic documents, e-government tools …):

  1. the first joint strategic document focused on common didactic models involving the education institutions in the Programme area, guidelines, common methods and shared contents of cross-border education, teaching of minority, regional and neighbouring languages and education on the risks associated with land use and climate change;
  2. the second strategic document for the recognition of study and professional qualifications in the field of education contained a description of the common procedure, the list of documents required and the individual steps for the recognition of study and professional qualifications of teachers, educators and the like.

In addition, in order to meet the Programme objectives concerning the number of recipients participating in the joint training courses, the project organised:

  1. Joint training courses for teachers of public schools in the Programme area, addressing cross-border teaching and teaching of minority, regional and neighbouring languages, including the issue of risks associated with land use and climate change. Five courses ensured the transfer of knowledge and the didactic models foreseen in the joint strategic document drafted by the network.
  2. A joint training course on the recognition of study and professional qualifications in the field of education for staff working in student offices, career guidance desks and other offices at universities and faculties in the cross-border area, as well as for other stakeholders.
